Underlining the Obvious
In the news this morning is the report that in written prepared remarks in answer to Congressional questions, former #2 Justice Department official, James B. Comey reviewed that he believed the Office of the Vice President had subsequently blocked a promotion for one of the Justice Department officials who had been involved in the Justice Department conclusion that the NSA surveillance program was unlawful. While there can be many reasons for a promotion proposal to be blocked, Dick Cheny’s involvement is more than a little suspicious.
Dick Cheney is about as far to the right when it comes to “ends justify the means” as you can find. He is neither lazy as George Bush nor is he a simple thinker. Cheney works hard and can sponsor a broad range of measure, each interrelated, and sharing the same common objective. The outing of Valerie Plame and the hospital bedside inquisition of John Ashcroft have all the marks of Cheney and his henchmen.
Since Dick Cheney deserves to have his good name cleared, I would think it only proper to appoint a special prosecuter and conduct a full investigation. Until then, we should assume him guilty until proven otherwise!
